Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Let's put books into the hands of Wilsonville’s children. Through a program called the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, the Library is collaborating with the Foundation to mail age appropriate new books to every child under the age of 5 in Wilsonville. The program encourages children to read by making reading, literally, a gift. And children who are enrolled in the program enter school better prepared to learn and read. During the program's first year more than 420 children were signed up to receive books.
The Wilsonville Imagination Library is celebrating its 5th anniversary in February 2017. 710 pre-schoolers are currently enrolled and 650 children have graduated from the program over the last 5 years. Look out Kindergarten, here they come!
As a partner, the Library is working to increase the program’s effectiveness by providing early literacy messages to enrolled families. A parent is a child's first teacher; and through the Imagination Library and the Library's outreach to families, parents will have tools they need to make their children successful in school and life.
The Kiwanis Club of Wilsonville founded and managed the program for the first 5 years. It continues to provide significant direct support to this amazing program. The Foundation has started to manage the program and will continue to fund the Library’s outreach to families in Wilsonville in an effort to reach and enroll every child under 5.
