KIERSTEN RAE SIGNALNESS

Libraries have always been special places for me, full of possibility, connection, and belonging. I still get that spark of excitement every time I walk in, knowing there’s so much to discover. My parents raised me and my three older siblings in Wilsonville, homeschooling us for several years and bringing me to the library from the time I was a baby. It quickly became a fixture of my childhood, where I spent countless hours exploring the shelves and joining summer reading programs. Later, libraries helped me through challenging college classes as quiet, reliable places to study and think. Even while living and working from an RV across the U.S., I relied on libraries in nearly every state for stable, welcoming spaces that felt like home. I’ve been deeply inspired by the expertise, care, and creativity that go into making library resources accessible and meaningful for each unique community.

I believe libraries are essential public spaces that offer far more than books. They provide practical resources, opportunities to learn and grow, and safe, inclusive environments for everyone, including our most vulnerable neighbors. I’m passionate about working with others to strengthen libraries’ role in expanding access, reducing barriers, and nurturing curiosity, dignity, and belonging for all.
