More than 102,000 books mailed to Wilsonville children! Through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the Foundation mails age-appropriate new books to children under the age of 5 in Wilsonville at no cost to the parents. The program encourages children to read by making reading, literally, a gift. Books are mailed to the child every month until their 5th birthday.
Early reading improves:
- Language development and related skills
- Pre-reading skills (e.g. knowing what a book is)
- Brain development
- Family interaction and closeness

“Connor loves books. He just turned 2 years old, and is already reading some of his favorite books to us! Being able to receive a new book each month until he is 5 is such an incredible way to keep books exciting and a part of our routines.”
The Library helps with enrollment and enhances the program’s effectiveness by providing early literacy messages to families. A parent is a child’s first teacher; and through the Imagination Library and the Library’s outreach to families, parents will have tools they need to make their children successful in school and life.

The Kiwanis Club of Wilsonville founded and managed the program for the first 5 years. The Foundation manages the program now. It funds the program and the Library’s outreach to Hispanic and under-served families in Wilsonville in an effort to reach and enroll every child under the age of five. Your donations put books into the hands of children.
