Teacher, Middleton Elementary, Sherwood

In 2006, I started taking my twin daughters to the Wilsonville Library storytime when they were six months old and continued until they were in grade school. Each week we would all look forward to the gifted librarians who made storytime magical. After storytime, we would spend time carefully choosing books to check out and read at home. I loved this weekly tradition that encouraged my girls to read and also to foster friendships with other moms and children.

As an elementary reading and writing teacher, I know how important it is for children to be exposed to books from an early age. When I learned about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and that children would receive free books from birth to age five, I wanted to spread the word to all parents. The Library Foundation has been a champion of the program and I am honored to be a part of the board.
