Donors honored for supporting Wilsonville Imagination Library for 6 years

“Every child who is enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library that I’ve talked to is excited about reading and about getting something in the mail,” shares Hilly Alexander, board member of Wilsonville Public Library Foundation and library volunteer extraordinaire.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) is a book-gifting outreach that encourages parents to read to their children.  Enrolled children receive a high quality, brand new book in the mail each month until their fifth birthday.  These children experience the joy of reading and are more prepared for kindergarten and more successful in school for years to come.  Books are free to families of enrolled children, but the Library Foundation has a monthly bill to pay for the books.  Donors make the program possible.

Tuesday, February 13, Wilsonville Imagination Library celebrated six years of existence and thanked their long-term partners.  Jan Rippey, Executive Director of Wilsonville Imagination Library states, “Every donor is important, but these partners are extra special because of their long-term and sizable contributions.”

Outstanding local partners were recognized at Wilsonville Imagination Library’s 6-year anniversary celebration on February 13 for the support they have given to make Imagination Library possible in our community.   The Library Foundation thanked these special donors at the celebration:

                    Judith and Robert Stearns

The celebration took place in conjunction with the Public Library’s toddler story time.  Featured stories of the evening were titles included in the Imagination Library collection.

Any family who lives in the attendance area for Boones Ferry Primary School, Lowrie Primary School, or Boeckman Creek Primary School is invited to enroll their children, aged 0-4, in DPIL.  Enrollment forms are available at each of the primary schools, at the Wilsonville Public Library, and online at www.imaginationlibrary.com.

“Dolly Parton wanted these books to be available to every child, so there is no fee for any family who enrolls their children,”  states Pat Duke, Wilsonville Public Library Director.  “The Dollywood Foundation makes the program affordable, but as a community we do have a monthly bill to pay to provide these books to the kids in our hometown, so we especially appreciate faithful donors to the program.”
